How to Use Rice Cooker Auto-Clean (And What It Does Not Do)

Cuckoo Auto-Clean and Zojirushi self-clean are steam odor cycles. They do not wash the inner pot. Water to the line, run the named key, then still hand-wash the bowl and lid.

Auto-Clean is steam, not a dishwasher

Cuckoo America’s CR-0675F copy says that after cooking, Auto-Clean “will automatically steam clean your unit.” The same page still tells you to remove the inner lid and wash it. Those two sentences are the whole product.

What the cycle actually does:

Boils a measured amount of water.
Pushes steam across the inner lid, vent path, and (on pressure models) closer to the valve.
Loosens starchy film so a wipe works.
On some Cuckoos, it can start after Keep Warm — confirm your manual. Do not assume every CR does that.

What it does not do:

Wash rice off the inner pot. You still sponge the bowl.
Replace a torn gasket.
Un-flake a dead nonstick coating. That is pot diagnosis.
Make nurungji. Scorched Rice is a different key: nurungji.

Zojirushi’s NL-EAC feature list: “Reduces odor with self-cleaning function.” Same idea. Odor, not soap. The NS-TSC10 still wants the inner lid rinsed after every cook even though it has Reheat and Keep Warm.

How to run it

Cuckoo Micom (CR-0675F class):

Empty leftover rice. Fridge it or toss it — Reheat is a different key.
Rinse the inner pot so you are not steaming last night’s crust into the lid.
Fill to the clean / White line 2 the manual names. Not line 6.
Menu → Auto-Clean. Start. ~24 minutes on the CR-0675F sheet.
Unplug. Cool. Dump the water. Wash the pot, inner lid, and gasket groove with a soft sponge.
Dry the inner lid fully before the next cook.

Zojirushi self-clean (NL-EAC class):

Follow the NL-EAC manual’s self-clean steps, not a Cuckoo water line. The job is odor reduction after garlic, curry, or a week of Keep Warm. Then still wash the detachable inner lid. Zojirushi says the outer lid will not close if that inner lid is missing — reseat it.

Do not:

Add dish soap to the steam cycle.
Run Auto-Clean with a full pot of leftover rice “to reheat.” That is Reheat.
Run it as a substitute for scorched-pot soak when you have a black crust. Soak first, then Clean if you want.
Treat monthly Auto-Clean as permission to skip the daily inner-lid rinse. Starch lives there overnight.

Skip-buy / skip-cycle

Skip buying a Cuckoo only for Auto-Clean. A $30 one-button pot plus two minutes of washing already handles starch. Buy Auto-Clean as part of a Micom you wanted for GABA, Scorched Rice, or a timer.

Skip Auto-Clean on a leaking lid. Fix the gasket first. Steaming into a torn ring just pushes starch into the hinge.

Skip steel wool after the steam pass. The film is still a film.

Skip vinegar in the Clean key unless the booklet names it. Use vinegar on the schedule guide if you need a deodorize soak in the bowl, then rinse.

What does Auto-Clean on a Cuckoo rice cooker do?

Can I put vinegar or dish soap in Auto-Clean?

Water unless the manual names a cleaner. Soap foam in a steam vent is how you get a mess, not a sterile cooker. Vinegar deodorize cycles belong in the hand-wash guides, not as a substitute for the named Auto-Clean water fill.

Does a one-button cooker have Auto-Clean?

No. BLACK+DECKER RC516 and Aroma ARC-753SG are Cook/Warm thermal switches. Wash the pot and glass lid. There is no Clean key to press.
